CD140a, also known as platelet-derived growth factor receptor-α (PDGFR-α), is one of two receptors for platelet-derived growth factors (PDGFs). Receptor dimerization and transphosphorylation at tyrosine residues activates the intracellular kinase activity. CD140a is expressed by embryonic tissues and mesenchymal-derived cells of the adult mouse tissues. Expression of CD140a is also associated with various malignancies.
